Using public transport in Dhaka is a real challenge, as traffic congestion has become a serious issue over the years. Besides the city buses and taxis, you can also find various local transportation options as rickshaws, CNGs and tempos.
The bus network is extensive, but the service is very slow due to traffic congestion. Buses are crowded and uncomfortable, so it's not the recommended transportation method, especially for tourists. Also, they don't have an exact schedule, and it might be hard to catch the right bus to your destination.
In Dhaka, it is tough to find a taxi, and you can't see many taxi vehicles on the street. If you want to take one, it is best to head to a high-end hotel, as they are usually parked there. The taxi fare is not metered, and you need to negotiate the price before you board.
Rickshaws are pedal-driven in Bangladesh, although some vehicle come battery-fitted. However, CNGs are more preferred as they run on compressed natural gas and are faster than regular rickshaws. They can fit two to three people, and you need to negotiate the price for the trip.
Tempos are large rickshaws with cabins in the back which can fit more people. They have predefined routes and are an excellent alternative to the buses, as they are cheap but faster. However, they are not comfortable, as many people squeeze in the cabin.

It is the central hub for arriving in Bangladesh and serves international flights to many worldwide destinations.
