Cancun is on the northeast coast of the Yucatán Peninsula on the Caribbean Sea, in MQuintana Roo, Mexico. It is a popular touristic destination and the municipality of Benito Juárez is located there. The public transport system in Cancun consists of buses, taxis and ferries.
The buses in Cancun run every five minutes on the routes R1 and R2 which go between the city centre and the Hotel Zone. The buses only accept Pesos, so if plan to use the bus system you should be prepared.
In Cancun there are no metered taxis, so before getting in you would have to negotiate the price. The taxi fare will be lower if you have Pesos, and pay in this currency instead of American dollars.
Travelling by ferry to the Isla Mujeres is available throughout the whole day from the docks: Playa Tortugas, El Embarcadero, and Playa Caracol in Cancun. The last ferry is at 9 pm and the cost is around $20 per person.
