Chiang Rai private custom made tours, excursions and guided tours of Chiang Rai are available from Airports Taxi Transfers.
Chiang Rai tours pageThe best option to reach the city is either with a direct flight from Bangkok or by car from Chiang Mai. Once in Chiang Rai, you can use traditional transportation means tuk-tuk and samlor or modern ones such as a car, bicycle, motorcycle and taxi.
Tuk-tuk and samlor are ideal for short-distance trips; however, for farther destinations, a taxi is necessary. The most convenient way to explore the city is by foot as the traffic is pretty much hectic.
Daily ferry services are also available from Chian Rei to Ban Ruam Mit, and Tha Ton departing from CR Pier located 2 km northwest from the city centre.
The city is served by two bus stations, the New Bus Station (journeys outside Chaing Rai province) and Old Bus Station (only for trips within Chaing Rai province). Bus transfers are cheap but not comfortable nor convenient for long-distance travels due to several crush reports in the past years.
The nearest train station is in Chiang Mai, around 200 km away.
Mae Fah Luang Chiang Rai International Airport (CEI) is around 8 km away from the city centre. The airport handles over 2,8 million passengers annually flying with China Eastern Airlines, Thai Lion Air and Bangjij Airways.
Since 2018, there is a new bus line that connects the airport with Chiang Rai, dropping off the passengers at both bus stations. The airport bus starts at 6:00 and runs every 40 minutes until 18:00.
Airport taxi vehicles are located at designated taxi stands. They either operate with voucher bought at the arrival hall or charge by the meter. In most occasions, the taxi drivers refuse to use the meter and overcharge.
To avoid scams and getting lost in Chiang Rai, we recommend booking a private airport transfer with us. A comfortable vehicle with a professional driver will be waiting for you at the airport and take you to any hotel or a residential address of your choice.
You can choose the travel date, the collection times, drop off point and receive an instant quote online. Our rates are fixed, all-inclusive, no extra costs or hidden fees.
We also offer airport transfer services in other cities in Thailand, including Bangkok, Krabi, Phuket, Maehong Son and Chiang Mai.
