Odessa is the third most populated city in Ukraine and an attractive touristic destination. The public transportation in Odessa consists of trams, buses, trains and taxis. For the public transport in Odessa is very cheap you can only pay in cash to the driver when you get off the bus.
Trams are not a very comfortable way of transport in Odessa, however they work well for short distance destinations. The trams are usually packed with people and you can get mugged or robbed in the crowds. Be careful and take care of your belongings because there are many cases of pickpocketing in trams. Tram number 5 takes you to the bus station, the train station and also some other attractive touristic destinations.
There are two types of buses in Odessa: trolley-buses and yellow buses called Marshrutka. Trolley-buses will take you to the old part of the city and they are easily accessible if you carry baggage. Marshrutka buses go everywhere throughout Odessa, however they are usually very crowded. To get on the Marshrutka bus you should hail the bus driver at they will stop regardless whether you are at the station or not.
