The capital city of Morroco, as well as a World Heritage Site, has a public transportation organised with a Rabat-Sale tramway and bus lines.
Introduced in 2011, the tram system with two lines and 31 stops runs on every 10 minutes during weekdays and Saturday and on every 20 minutes during Sunday. Moreover, the bus system with over 300 buses was taken by a new operator and in 2019 improvements and investments took place. Local buses are usually overcrowded and delayed but inexpensive.
Rabat can be accessed by train via the national rail service, ONCF. The trains arrive and depart from two train stations, Rabat-Ville station (intercity connections to Casablanca, Marrakesh, El Jadida, Oujda, Taza, Tanger, Fes and Meknes) and Rabat-Agdal (urban connections). Frequent train delays are inevitable.
Two bus stations serve Rabat, Gare Routiere Kamra Rabat and CTM bus station. Since there are no official bus routes, the buses go through the city, so check the signs showing which bus lines stop at that place.
Rabat is accessible by air through the Sale Airport or Rabat-Sale Airport (RBA). The airport is located in Sale but is also serves the city of Rabat offering daily international flights between Rabat and Abu Dhabi, Brussels, Paris as well as domestic flights.
Express shuttle bus commute between the airport and Rabat city, terminating at the train stations. The shuttle bus operates depending on the flight arrival and departure times. The times are fixed, 2 hours before flight departure and 60 minutes after the flight arrival. In case your flight has been delayed, you will miss the shuttle bus.
The local bus line 2 is a cheaper airport transportation option. The bus station is outside the airport, 10 minutes away by walking.
Airport taxis are also available, but they are considered to be the most expensive option, as they charge by the meter. The parked airport taxis are coloured white. Petit taxis (mostly Fiat Uno or Renault Dacia) are coloured differently: blue taxi for Rabat and cream taxi for Sale.
