Samos is an island in the eastern Aegean Sea, near the coast of Asia Minor. The island is the birthplace of the mathematician Pythagoras and the philosopher Epicurus. In ancient times, Samos was a rich and powerful state, known for its quality wine.
Due to the excellent road network, the Samos bus transportation is fast and efficient. There are daily buses from Vathy to Kokkari, Pythagorio, Agios Konstantinos, Karlovasi, Ireon, Mytilinii and Portrokali. Also, Pythagorio has its own bus station that connects the town with Ireon, Mytilinii and Marathokampos.
Samos Airport (SMI) serves Samos Island handling regular flights to Athens and Thessaloniki, as well as, seasonal flights to several European countries. It is located 5 km from the nearby town of Pythagorio.
A local bus runs from Samos Airport to Samos city centre several times a day. Samos airport taxis are available outside the terminal building. The taxi fare is charged by the meter and extra costs may apply for luggage.
