Built in 1985, the Métro léger de Tunis is not a standard underground transit system but it is a light rail. The metro system has 8 lines and 66 stations so you can go anywhere you like in the city and it's also connected with the suburbs. Run by the Société Nationale du Transport Rural et Interurbain (SNTRI), the official bus company in Tunis offers air-conditioned buses which can be found daily. The routes are on time, very comfortable and the fares are not expensive. The SNTRI also has booking office pretty much at every station, so you can reserve your sit very easily.
The name of the main railway station is Tunis Gare Centrale. Their trains offer three classes and the travel is quite comfortable. You should always reserve your seat, especially in the summer because that's when people travel more and the train gets crowded. You should also know that if you are travelling with kids their tickets are free if they are under four and half price if they are aged between four and ten.
