Bergen has connected continental Europe with the coastal and northern parts of Norway for centuries, facilitating commercial exchange within its gates. Travelling to and from Bergen is easy, regardless of the way you reach the city: plane, boat, train or bus. Some may say that using transport within the city is unnecessary since the Bergen city centre is compact, while public transport can be useful to reach different parts of the city.
Regular bus lines run every 20 minutes during the day through the city centre. Shorter bus lines operate in the suburbs, usually from a local terminal, and they are less frequent. The bus service is available until 01:00, with a few night bus lines available till the morning. During weekends and holidays, the bus service is limited.
The light rail is the main public transport option from the city centre to the southern parts of Bergen. The line operates every day from 06:00 to 01:00 with a 10-minutes frequency. Night lines are available during the weekend every 30 minutes. The same tickets are valid both on the bus and the right rail.
The best way to reach the rural suburb of Arna is to use the commuter train service. The train departs from the Bergen Train Station and the journey to Arna takes 8 minutes.
Bergen Airport, Flesland (BGO) is the second busiest in Norway, located 20 km from the city centre. It serves domestic and international flights. You can use public transport, an airport taxi or private airport transfer to reach your destination.
The Airport Express Bus operates to the Bergen Bus Station and the travel time is only 20 minutes. During the busiest part of the day, the bus departs every 20 minutes. There is also the Express coach that reaches Asane through Fyllingsdalen. The bus number 23 runs to Loddefjord, Storavatnet and Sotra. Bergen shuttle services are available to Hurtigruten and Flesland dock. The bus stop is located outside the terminal building.
