Known as Greece's Gate to the West, Patras is an important commercial centre in Greece. Patras Port is a strategic hub for trade and communication with Italy, as well as, the rest of Western Europe. Public transport in Patras includes buses and commuter rails services. Two bus routes run to the University of Patras, and several bus lines to the suburbs, including Zarouchleika, Saravali and Paralia. KTEL provides regional and intercity bus services to places in the province of Achaea, as well as, to cities all over Greece. Commuter trains run from Patras to the nearby villages of Rio and Agios Vasileios.
Araxos Airport (GPA) serves the third-largest city in Greece, Patras. This is a combined military and civilian airport, located near the village of Araxos, around 45 km from Patras. It handles seasonal flights to several European destinations.
During the summer season, the local bus runs from Araxos Airport to Patras daily. Airport taxis are available, as well. You can take a metered Araxos airport taxi from the taxi stand or order one by phone.
