Milan Transport Guide

Yearly, over 6 million tourists visit the world's most popular fashion city. The location and good infrastructure make Milan easily accessible by air, road and rail.

The national railway Trenitalia operates from Milan Central Train Station (Milano Centrale). Local trains connect Milan to Livorno, Bergamo, Pisa, Verona and Venice. International trains arrive in Milan from Geneva and Zurich while night trains offer transfers from Milan to Paris, Vienna and Munich.

Besides Milan Central Train Station, there are three smaller railway stations: Rogoredo, Cadorna and Porta Garibaldi. Metro, trams and buses, operated by Azienda Trasporti Milanesi (ATM), connect these stations to other parts of Milan. Cadorna train station is a popular departing point for transfers to Como or Bellagio. Porta Garibaldi train station provides transfers from Milan to Paris, Monza, Bergamo and Reggio di Calabria.

The metro network has four lines (M1, M2, M3, M5) each coloured differently, operating to 113 stations with limited working hours.

There are three airports serving flights to and from the metropolitan city of Milano: Milan Malpensa Airport, Milan Linate Airport and Bergamo Airport.

Milan Malpensa (MXP) is the main and second busiest one in Italy, serving Milan . Terminal 1 operates domestic flights in Italy. International overseas flights and flights to non-Schengen countries operate from Terminal 2.

Milan Linate Airport (LIN) handles domestic flights and flights mainly from the EU.

Bergamo Airport or Orio al Serio International (BGY) is located in the small town of Bergamo. It is serviced by low budget airlines and due to the low cost flights, many passengers going to Milan arrive there.

The transfer time from Malpensa Airport to Milan is approximately one hour by taxi. From Malpensa Terminal 1 passengers can get a train to Milan central train station. Shuttle buses frequently depart from Milan Malpensa and Milan Linate to Milan central train station.

There are no trains from Linate Airport to Milan. Urban buses (number 73 and X73) operate to Milan centre. The bus service to Milan city centre is with limited operating hours from 06:00 until 23:00. A shuttle bus connects Malpensa and Linate 5 times per day, whereas a direct bus line from Bergamo Airport to Milan centre departs on every 30-60 minutes.
